We can look back and marvel at our heritage. Our roots can be traced back to the early 1700s. As we know, in those times, records and information relating to colored people were not adequately kept. However, through the diligent effort of some, we could persevere.
We can go back to the year 1879, when Lucius Pettiford was born from the Union of William (Pappy) and Mildred Fain Pettiford. “Pa-Pa:, as Lucius was called, was the eldest child. Pa-Pa was a farmer by trade in Granville County and again to marvel, he owned the land he farmed. This accomplishment occurred at a time when most sharecroppers were called “niggers”. Ma-Ma, as Carrie Wilson was called, was noted Mid-Wife in Granville County, where she delivered many of her own grandchildren.
We the descendants of Lucius and Carrie have a post-dated history of being abled survivors. We all walk separately, but together, with God. Through the goodness of God, we can continue to come together to create memories of a lifetime.
